Search Engine Work

Search Engine Work

Search Engine

  • A user search for information in the search engine to get relevant information.
  • Users often use search engines are Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
  • Youtube is also the world's largest second search engine owned by Google.
  • Most of the users search on youtube to get a better understanding of their queries.

How do search engines work

  • A search engine shows information to the user but the search engine does some process and checking algorithm internally to show better results.
  • The search engine process will not be shown by the user.
  • The search engine makes copies of all the websites and stores them in the cache.
  • When the user searches for some information in the search engine, the algorithm is checked through the cache to show results accurately.
  • The three stages of search engine mechanism are:
  1. Crawling
  2. Indexing
  3. Ranking

Crawling:

  • Crawlers is a computer software program used by the search engine to crawl the entire website.
  • It crawls every web page and follows the links on the website.
  • Crawlers are also called a spider, Google Bot, web crawlers, and robots.
  • Google Webmaster tool> tells the information about search engine activities, like how many web pages and links are crawled.
  • They will tell how many pages are downloaded by the crawlers and problem arises when crawling the webpage.
  • Robots.txt file allows the crawler to crawl only necessary information.
  • Private and sensitive information will be excluded by the robots.txt file.
  • XML sitemap file helps the search engine to find the website .
  • When an XML sitemap is submitted to search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing are easy to crawl and index the website.

Indexing

  • After crawling the copies of the website stored in the database server.
  • We can use the copies of web pages through cache.
  • To index the website , a search engine algorithm is used to check the factors like inbound links, outbound links, keyword density, content quality, and factual information.
  • This process will not be visible to the user.

Ranking:

  • A Search engine ranks all the possible websites related to that user's queries.
  • They ranked depend upon many factors like history, location, relevant content, and links.
  • Users type the query in the search engine, the query is sent to the database server and it checks the ranking algorithm called relevancy, links, and website credibility.
  • After that search engines display relevant answers to the users.
